The Heritage Quilt Guild of South Suburbia states in its Mission statement that our desire is to share quilt making and the aspects that make up the traditional fabric art. One of our commitments is to preform community service whether it is to make half square quilts for seniors or celebrate vets with a quilt of honor.
The COVID pandemic has not dampened our enthusiasm/ideas for quilting or our service projects.
We continue with the ongoing projects for The Family Rescue group and for The Carmelite Sisters home. We provide quilts and basic necessities for the Family Rescue group. For The Carmelite Sisters we provide quilts and duffel bags to hold clothing and other items when the kids go home. We turn upholstery fabric into bags filled with fabric and batting scraps to make dog beds. These are donated to area animal shelters. Not only do we provide comfort for shelter animals, we no longer feel guilty about throwing those scraps away! There is always a need for kennel quilts for several sites around the country which have been impacted by storms and wild fires.
Our members have come up with innovative ways for us to stay active in the guild, stay connected to one another, and to continue our mission of sharing quilt making and service to others.
